Hampshire sweeps Martinsburg; Petersburg routs East Hardy

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Hampshire racked up 39 hits and 31 runs across a doubleheader sweep Saturday, defeating Martinsburg, 15-9 and 16-7.

Hampshire (3-6) had 19 hits in Game 1. Ava Call, Bri Cosner, Chazalynn Keller and Madynn Frye had three hits each, and Charly Ashton and Kaitlyn Ferguson had two.

Cosner tripled twice, doubled and drove in four runs; Ashton tripled, had four RBIs and two runs; Call doubled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice; Ferguson doubled and had two RBIs; and Frye doubled, had two ribbies and two runs.

Cosner earned the win in the circle, and Olivia Mullin took the loss.

Daysha Cook and Kamyia Cole-Redman homered for Martinsburg.

Hampshire had one more hit in the second game, plating five runs in each the fourth and fifth innings and four in the sixth to pull away.

Ferguson went 4 for 5 with a three-run home run, nine runs batted in and two runs, Ashton ended 5 for 5 with a double and four runs, Cosner tripled and singled twice, Molly McVicker was 3 for 5 with three RBIs and two runs, and Natalie Sions singled twice.

Call earned the win, and Martinsburg's Danayja Williams was the losing pitcher.

Hampshire hosts Mountain Ridge (2-4) on Monday at 5 p.m.

Petersburg 15, East Hardy 0

BAKER, W.Va. — Shyane Tawney hit safely three times, and Gracie Carpenter threw a shutout to lead Petersburg to a five-inning win over East Hardy Saturday.

Carpenter threw five shutout innings of two-hit ball, striking out four and walking one.

Tawney was 3 for 5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, Carpenter was 2 for 3 with a double and three runs batted in, Ella Chew and Quenlynn Cole doubled, and Addison Kitzmiller drove in three runs.

Brooke Moyers took the loss in the circle for East Hardy (1-5). Ginger Combs doubled.

East Hardy hosts Luray, Virginia, on Monday at 5 p.m. Petersburg (5-4) hosts Moorefield (4-5) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
