Could TGL expansion be coming? A recent report says there's an eight-figure offer to make it happen sooner rather than later.
As reported last week, TGL is already in talks with ESPN working on a schedule for 2026. And on Tuesday, the Associated Press reported a group is planning to bid for a franchise in Dallas, putting the total investment at $77 million.
TGL started in 2025 with six teams: Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Boston, The Bay and Jupiter Links. Each team had four players, with three participating each week. Expansion has been a discussion point with the initial success of the league, and now we know there are bids out there to bring more teams in soon. In an interview with TGL CEO Mike McCorley, he told the Palm Beach Post there is no "timeline" on expansion, but he did not rule out a few additions for the 2026 season.
Although each team doesn't have players from only areas where they're from, a Dallas team could be comprised of some of the PGA Tour's best. Tom Kim, who played for Jupiter Links and was one of the first season's stars, lives in North Texas. Others with Dallas connections include world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Will Zalatoris, Si Woo Kim and others.
Justin Thomas' Atlanta Drive beat New York 2-0 in the best-of-three championship series last week, taking home the inaugural SoFi Cup.
What does Rory McIlroy think TGL can build upon in 2026?
Last week at the Texas Children's Houston Open, Golfweek caught up with TGL co-founder Rory McIlroy to speak about what changes TGL was working on going into season 2.
"I think we could do better job with being a little more imaginative with the golf holes, like design golf holes that you would never be able to play in real life," McIlroy said. "I think that would be pretty cool, right? I think that something that we could do a better job of. I would say the putting surface needs looked that, like I think it's much harder to hole putts on that TGL green than it is the hole putts on on a normal green. We could have a look at changing the putting surface maybe,as well.
"Apart from that, ESPN is happy. Sponsors are happy. The players are really bought into it, so as a first season has went, I think it's went really, really well."
