Grizz Khan: “Less than 15% chance of Liverpool signing Alvarez” – Transfer Reality Check
Julian Alvarez to Liverpool? Analysing Latest Transfer Speculation
The latest episode of Chat G&G on Anfield Index TV sparked debate around the possibility of Julian Alvarez making a move to Liverpool. With speculation fuelled by football journalist Sam Maguire, Gags Tandon and Grizz Khan dissected the likelihood of such a transfer happening. But is it realistic? And more importantly, would it benefit Arne Slot’s evolving Liverpool side?
Liverpool’s Interest in Alvarez – A Real Possibility?
Gags Tandon wasted no time in addressing the rumour: “Liverpool have Julian Alvarez on their radar again… looked at signing him last summer but dealing with Manchester City wasn’t straightforward.”
This is a significant claim, given how difficult it is for direct rivals to do business. Now, with Alvarez reportedly settled at Atletico Madrid, the question remains: could Liverpool prise him away?
Grizz Khan wasn’t convinced, pouring cold water on the idea of a move: “Being in for him and getting him is two different things… in my humble opinion, there is less than 15% chance of getting Alvarez out of Atletico Madrid.”
His reasoning? The Argentine is said to be “over the moon to be there” and has been vocal about his admiration for Diego Simeone. But despite this, the lure of playing in the Premier League for a club of Liverpool’s stature cannot be ignored.
What Would Alvarez Bring to Arne Slot’s Side?
Liverpool’s attacking unit is already stacked with Mohamed Salah, Darwin Núñez, Diogo Jota, Luis Díaz, and Cody Gakpo, but the need for a clinical finisher has been a lingering issue. Grizz Khan highlighted Alvarez’s skill set, stating: “We need pace, we need directness… and goals, we need finishing more than anything. And Alvarez has all of that.”
His ability to play across the front line, link play effectively, and contribute defensively would make him an ideal fit for Slot’s high-pressing system. More importantly, as Grizz noted: “If he plays as a nine in a team for Slot – holy hell! That is a finisher!”
Liverpool fans, still adjusting to a post-Klopp era, are eager to see how Slot shapes his squad. But would FSG be willing to spend what it takes to get Alvarez?
How Much Would It Take to Sign Alvarez?
One of the biggest obstacles to this move happening is the transfer fee. Atletico Madrid are not known for selling key players on the cheap. Gags Tandon speculated on what it would take: “I think the price point of Alvarez will be way less than Isak, of course… but if we put £100 million on Atleti’s plate, they will take it.”
That’s a hefty price, particularly when Liverpool have other pressing areas to address. Would the club be willing to part with such a fee, especially with financial fair play considerations?
The Champions League Factor
One potential advantage Liverpool hold over Atletico Madrid is their long-term Champions League prospects. While Atletico remain competitive under Simeone, Grizz questioned their ability to reach the very top: “Will Atleti ever win the Champions League? Ever? I do not see it. Will Liverpool win the Champions League? Everyone will say yes – they will, at some point.”
This could be a crucial factor in Alvarez’s decision-making. If he harbours ambitions of winning Europe’s biggest prize again, a move to Liverpool might become appealing.
While the idea of Julian Alvarez to Liverpool is an exciting one, the reality is far from straightforward. As Grizz put it: “I don’t think he comes, I don’t think he comes, I don’t think he comes.”
Despite his fit for the team and Liverpool’s interest, the likelihood of Atletico Madrid letting him go – and the financial implications – make this deal a long shot. Still, with Liverpool looking to reshape their attack under Arne Slot, it’s a situation worth monitoring in the months ahead.
