Gladbach up to sixth after away win
Romano Schmid nets for Bremen in the 38th minute, simply glorious free-kick sailing past Jonas Omlin. And just a minute later, Felix Agu should have scored, open goal after a ball across the box but failed to connect with the ball properly.
However, Bremen penalty moments before half time that Silva buried to level the scores. His first goal for the club after arriving in January.
After securing a fantastic win against Bayer Leverkusen last time out, Werder Bremen entered this weekend with the hopes of kickstarting a run of good form.
However, after just seven minutes, Borussia Mönchengladbach took the lead via a penalty from Alasanne Plea after Robin Hack was tripped by Milos Veljkovic inside the box.
Oliver Burke missed a good chance to equalise in the 25th minute, and the hosts were punished just two minutes later when Plea added a second. The Frenchman's volley from the right-hand side of the box snuck under Michael Zetterer despite the goalkeeper getting a touch to the effort.
Aiming to claw themselves back into the encounter, Romano Schmid found the back of the net with a beautiful free kick that sailed past Jonas Omlin, and the hosts should have equalised just over a minute later, however, Felix Agu was unable to connect with the ball and tap home from close range.
Die Grün-Weißen did find their equaliser on the stroke of half-time after a lengthy VAR check saw Bremen awarded a penalty that was converted confidently by Andre Silva, with the Portuguese striker netting his first for the club since arriving on loan in January.
Less than two minutes after the break, however, Bremen's work was undone by Alasanne Plea again, who netted from inside the box from a one-on-one situation with Omlin.
As the match reached its final stages, Gladbach eased the pressure on them by turning their one-goal lead into a two-goal lead as Tim Kleindienst sent the ball home from close range.
In additional time, Kleindienst's day was spoiled, however. The centre forward received a second yellow card for a silly tackle, putting somewhat of a dampener on what was an overall positive day for Gerardo Seoane's men.
Securing the win, die Fohlenelf move themselves up to sixth in the league momentarily ahead of RB Leipzig's clash with Borussia Dortmund in tonight's Topspiel.
