FSU women's basketball's 2nd half collapse led to 2nd round exit vs. LSU in NCAA March Madness

The LSU Tigers were just too much to handle for Florida State women's basketball in the second half. As a result, FSU's season has concluded.

Despite the valuable efforts from FSU's superstar Ta'Niya Latson, it was not enough to take down the third-seeded Tigers as they were defeated 101-71 in the round of 32 of the NCAA Women's basketball tournament on Monday night at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

FSU ended its historic season with a 24-9 (13-5) record in FSU coach Brooke Wyckoff's fourth season.

The Tigers will move to Sweet 16 for the third consecutive year under Kim Mulkey. They will face North Carolina State in Spokane, Washington.

At first, it was a back-and-forth game between the Top 10 scoring offenses. Latson scored the first 12 points at the start of the first quarter, dropping 23 in the first half as the Seminoles trailed 50-49.

In the third quarter, it was all LSU. The Seminoles were outscored 28-6, and LSU led by 23 points by the end of the period.

Latson was held to just seven points in the second half, finishing the night with 30 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

Makayla Timpson, who played her final game as a Seminole, finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.

LSU shot 56 percent from the field to FSU's 36 percent and outrebounded the Seminoles 46-37. Four of the five starters were in double figures. Three of those starters had at least 20 points.

Mikay Williams, who had 12 in the third quarter, finished with 28 points. Aneesah Morrow dropped 26 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

Sa'Miyah Smith, who made all nine shots, added 20, and Flau'Jae Johnson, who had two points in the first half, finished with 13.
