Fowler: Reaching League Cup final with this group is ‘special’
Mary Fowler says winning the League Cup with City would feel particularly special given the tight-knit nature of the squad.
The bulk of the current City team has remained relatively intact over the past three seasons, when Fowler was one of eight summer signings ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Since then, the Australian has helped the Blues reach two semi-finals in the League Cup and just miss out on the WSL title on goal difference.

But now City are within touching distance of a first piece of silverware since 2022, and Fowler says the close bond that exists within the squad makes that opportunity all the more significant.
“It feels very special to me, and I know that quite a lot of the other girls feel that way too,” she said.
“I think I speak for everyone when I say, being in an environment like this is quite rare. You don’t get a lot of teams that just get on very well on and off the field.
“It’s just been a nice experience for everyone, so to be able to potentially win something having had all that experience together, it would be really special.

“You could see that in our celebrations after the [Arsenal semi-final] game. Everyone was so together, and it was a bit emotional because everyone, wanted that so much.”
City lock horns with Chelsea four times in less than two weeks, with Saturday’s 12:15 (UK) kick-off in the League Cup final the first of those encounters.
A UEFA Women’s Champions League first leg at the Joie Stadium follows on Wednesday 19 March at 20:00, before the two teams lock horns at the Etihad Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday 23 March (14:30).
WATCH: Cushing: City must embrace Chelsea challenge
That four-part saga then comes to a conclusion on Thursday 27 March, when we travel to Stamford Bridge for the second leg of our last eight Champions League clash.
It’s a surreal experience for both sides, but Fowler insists the focus from City is just on gaining a positive result in whatever the next encounter is.
“It’s crazy, I’ve never seen that before.
“I already thought it was a lot that we’ve had United [Manchester United] twice and then Arsenal twice but I guess that’s just our luck this season.
“I think you just have to take what comes and we just prepare for each one of them as separate games.”
CHELSEA V CITY APP COVERAGE
As always, you can follow Saturday’s League Cup final on the official Man City app.
