Following the 2022-23 season, the Nashville Predators made the significant decision to buy out Matt Duchene of the final three years of his contract. This was after the veteran forward posted 22 goals and 56 points in 71 games with the Predators that campaign.

Shortly after being bought out by the Predators, Duchene signed a one-year deal with the Dallas Stars. He had a solid 2023-24 season with the Stars, recording 25 goals and 65 points in 80 contests. This was good enough for him to land another one-year deal with Dallas this past off-season, and it is a move the Stars undoubtedly are ecstatic about making.

Duchene is currently enjoying one of the best seasons of his career in 2024-25. In 73 games, the 2009 third-overall pick has 28 goals, 46 assists, 74 points, and a plus-14 rating. He has also been staying red-hot as this campaign rolls on, as he has 10 goals and 25 points in his last 20 contests.

With numbers like these, Duchene has been a major reason for the Stars' success this campaign. He is having one of the best offensive seasons of his career and is showing that he is still a highly impactful player, even in his 16th NHL season. The only time he has had more points in a season than now was when he had 86 in 78 games with the Predators in 2021-22.

It will now be interesting to see how Duchene finishes off his outstanding campaign from here.
