Florida baseball second baseman Cade Kurland will miss the rest of the season due to lingering shoulder problems.
Florida Gators baseball coach Kevin O'Sullivan confirmed Kurland's status following UF's 8-4 win over North Florida on Tuesday night, adding that Kurland would be undergoing surgery on his shoulder in "another week or two."
A two-year starter at second base and preseason All-SEC selection, Kurland appeared in 14 games for UF this season. batting .316 with three home runs and 15 RBIs.
Freshman Brendan Lawson and Jacksonville transfer Justin Nadeau have filled in at second baseman when Kurland was out on and off this season and will continue to do so for the rest of the season.
The loss of Kurland is another injury blow to the Gators, who have lost center fielder Kyle Jones (shoulder) and pitcher Frankie Menendez to season-ending injuries. Starting pitcher Pierce Coppola also has been out since early March with an arm injury.
Florida (20-11, 1-8 SEC) will next host Vanderbilt in a three-game series this weekend at Condron Family Ballpark against Vanderbilt.
