Apr. 2—Tuesday didn't feel like a good day for quick times at Legends Stadium, but Ben Bliven, Lane Chivers, Kasen Kastner, Grace Gall and Alivia Rinehart didn't wait for better weather.
Several Flathead athletes ran top-two times in this young track and field season, at a triangular meet that included Missoula Big Sky and Whitefish.
Missoula Big Sky won both sides of the meet, which was scored to four places. The Eagles' girls scored 77 points to 69 for Flathead and 35 for Whitefish. Big Sky's boys scored 85 points to 74 for Flathead and 22 for the Bulldogs.
Rinehart, a senior, won the girls 200 meters in 26.31 seconds Tuesday, which sits No. 2 in Class AA. She won the 100-meter hurdles as well in 15.34, also the second-fastest time in the class.
Gall, a sophomore, won the 100 meters and was also second in the 400 in 1:02.96 — the latter is the No. 2 time in AA.
Josie Wilson led a 1-2 Flathead finish with Emery Eash in the 800, winning in 2:28.95. Everett Holland won the 1,600. Alice Dolezal was victorious in the high jump and second in the triple.
Big Sky went 1-2 in the 3,200 with Adelaide Sugden's time 10:29.61 setting the early standard for Class AA.
Whitefish got a win from Rachel Wilmot in the 400, which she ran in a Class A-best 1:00.44. Wilmot also anchored the Bulldogs' winning 1,600-meter relay, and they won the short relay as well, convincingly in 51.20 (second-fastest in A).
Bliven's time of 11.06 in the 100 meters is the fastest among AA boys this season by .02. He later won the 200 in 22.77, also the No. 2 time in AA.
Kastner zipped through the 800 in 1:57.29, becoming the first runner to meet the AA qualifying standard of 2:00.00.
The Braves' Christopher Holland and Jacob Johnson went 1-2 in the 1,600. Flathead also saw Carson Thorne and Brodyn Deshaw go 1-2 in the 3,200, with Thorne's time of 10:29.61 sitting No. 2 in AA.
Lane Chivers' winning time of 40.03 in the 300 hurdles sits second only to Glacier's Ethan Anderson. Chivers was also second to Big Sky's Cormack Batt in the 110 hurdles, and second in the high jump.
Michal Mahar, Chivers, Bliven and Sirreal Rice teamed up for a 400-meter relay win in 43.59.
Whitefish's Simon Douglas ran 2:00.29 in the 800, the No. 2 time in Class A. His teammates Colby Minton (53.20) and Preston McPherson went 1-2 in the 400.
