England vs Albania LIVE: Harry Kane scores 70th England goal to wrap up Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge
Myles Lewis-Skelly scored on his debut and Harry Kane grabbed his 70th international goal as Thomas Tuchel made a winning start to life as England head coach with a 2-0 victory over Albania at Wembley.
Lewis-Skelly, one of two England debutants along with Dan Burn on Tuchel’s first game in charge, scored the first goal of the German’s new era as the 18-year-old converted Jude Bellingham’s through ball in a fairytale moment.
Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final hero Burn was not too far away from joining the Arsenal teenager on the scoresheet but his the bar from Declan Rice’s corner as England went in the break ahead.
The second half of England’s opening World Cup qualifying fixture was not overly convincing, with Albania carrying some threat, but captain Kane made sure of the three points as he steered in a composed finish in the 77th minute.
There is work for Tuchel to do but England made a winning start on their road to the 2026 World Cup and they will return to Wembley on Monday for another qualifier against Latvia. Follow all the reaction from Tuchel’s first game in charge at Wembley below

England 2-0 Albania
21:40 , Jamie Braidwood90+4 mins: Pickford comes out of his box to make a clearance. He hasn’t had anything to do in the second half, really.
England 2-0 Albania
21:36 , Jamie Braidwood90+1 mins: We’re into five minutes of added time.
It’s not been a classic. Or, we’ve seen this type of England game before. It’s a World Cup qualifier, England have won, but it’s not been overly entertaining.
England 2-0 Albania
21:35 , Jamie Braidwood90 mins: A final change for England and a standing ovation for Myles Lewis-Skelly! The scorer of the opening goal is replaced by Reece James.
England 2-0 Albania
21:32 , Jamie Braidwood86 mins: That Kane goal has really killed off Albania’s fight.
And a few England fans are looking to get the early Tube back into London.
England 2-0 Albania
21:28 , Jamie Braidwood82 mins: Back underway. Jordan Henderson is back in an England shirt at Wembley. The former Liverpool captain gets a warm reception.
It wasn’t too long ago that he was booed here after joining a club in Saudi Arabia. He has since moved to Ajax.
England 2-0 Albania
21:27 , Jamie Braidwood81 mins: The defending from the Albania defender Ajeti was rubbish, as he jumped in for a ball he was never going to win.
Kane said thank you very much as he shrugged him off and found the corner.
There has been a stoppage as Albania’s goalkeeper Strakosha can’t continue.
GOAL! England 2-0 Albania (KANE 77')
21:22 , Jamie BraidwoodWHO ELSE! ANOTHER GOAL FOR KANE!
Oh this is quality from the captain! Out of nothing, he lurks at the back post, brings down Rice’s cross and then steers a finish across goal and into the corner.
70 goals for England - and that is a proper striker’s goal.
England 1-0 Albania
21:21 , Jamie Braidwood76 mins: There’s a stoppage as Albania goalkeeper Strakosha receives treatment. He came out for the ball and missed as Kane won his header.
England 1-0 Albania
21:19 , Jamie Braidwood73 mins: Time for the changes at last: Gordon, Bowen and Morgan Rogers are on. They replace Rashford, Foden and Jones.
England’s wingers didn’t really have an impact today. Jones was a bit brighter in midfield.
England 1-0 Albania
21:18 , Jamie Braidwood71 mins: Bellingham looks to surge forward, with Rashford in support, but Albania win it back.
At the other end, Konsa is required to make a brilliant piece of defending! The ball forward had missed Burn, but Konsa swept up in behind and beat Asllani to the ball!
Albania look more threatening at the moment. England are still waiting to make their changes.
England 1-0 Albania
21:14 , Jamie Braidwood68 mins: More danger for England! Broja beats Burn for pace for a second time but Walker cleans up in the box, keeping calm despite facing a two-on-one. Jones then shows a clear head to play his way out of danger and get England on the attack.
Broja has lifted Albania.
England 1-0 Albania
21:11 , Jamie Braidwood65 mins: Almost an impact from Broja! He had the beating of Burn around the outside but Konsa steps acoss and shields it back to Pickford.
Antony Gordon and Jarrod Bowen look to be coming on. I would imagine Foden and Rashford will make way.
England 1-0 Albania
21:09 , Jamie Braidwood62 mins: Albania make the first change of the match and bring on Armando Broja. It’s stalled England’s momentum.
England 1-0 Albania
21:05 , Jamie Braidwood60 mins: It’s starting to click a bit more now. Kane finds Jones in space on the right and the Liverpool midfielder looks to find Foden first-time. It’s straight at the defender, though, and Albania clear.
England 1-0 Albania
21:04 , Jamie Braidwood59 mins: Chance! Rashford takes flight down the left but is stopped by Ajeti. The move is revived by Bellingham, who is persistent. He clips a cross in for Kane, who gets in font of his marker.
Kane heads just past the post. Tuchel applauds. Better from Bellingham.
England 1-0 Albania
21:02 , Jamie Braidwood57 mins: Now Rashford is penalised - despite not touching Bajrami.
It’s been a very slow start to the second half from England.
England 1-0 Albania
21:00 , Jamie Braidwood54 mins: Walker is unlucky. He had skipped away from Aliji but is blown up for a foul after raising his boot.
England 1-0 Albania
20:57 , Jamie Braidwood51 mins: Frustration for Rashford as he looks to be impeded when chasing a pass forward down the left. The referee doesn’t see a foul.
England 1-0 Albania
20:53 , Jamie Braidwood48 mins: Albania with the first chance of the half. Bajrami works a yard of space and sends in a dangerous cross, but Burn is there to head clear at the back post.
England 1-0 Albania
20:49 , Jamie Braidwood46 mins: Back underway. Would like to see a bit more from Rashford and Foden in this half but they remain on the pitch after the restart.
HALF TIME! England 1-0 Albania
20:48 , Jamie BraidwoodBellingham was very close to adding England’s second as he arrived to meet Walker’s cross.
Bellingham has probably been England’s best player so far: he’s enjoying the free role behind Kane.
HALF TIME! England 1-0 Albania
20:34 , Jamie BraidwoodA pretty average performance from England but a fairytale story as Myles Lewis-Skelly gets his name on the scoresheet in Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge. He was almost joined by Dan Burn, who hit the bar from a late corner.
England lead at the break.
England 1-0 Albania
20:30 , Jamie Braidwood42 mins: OFF THE BAR! Dan Burn is so close to joining Myles Lewis-Skelly on the scoresheet. He arrives at the back post to meet Rice’s corner, but crashes the header against the woodwork!
England 1-0 Albania
20:28 , Jamie Braidwood40 mins: CLOSE! How is that not two! Great play from Walker, getting outside his full-back down the right. He hooks a cross back into the box and Bellingham arrives. His header is saved, and then Kane’s follow-up is somehow deflected over the bar!
England 1-0 Albania
20:27 , Jamie Braidwood38 mins: Foden and Rashford gave probably been the quietest in terms of time on the ball for England so far. Rice, Bellingham and Jones are seeing plenty of it.
England 1-0 Albania
20:25 , Jamie Braidwood34 mins: Albania have been able to spring forward a couple of times in the last five minutes or so. Pickford is required to come off his line and sweep up.
England 1-0 Albania
20:20 , Jamie Braidwood30 mins: A fairytale opener may settle England down, but Albania have responded well. Rice is required to sweep up in defence. The game hasn’t quite returned to the same pattern as before Lewis-Skelly’s goal.
England 1-0 Albania
20:16 , Jamie Braidwood27 mins: A first sign of danger at the other end. Burn is required to make a block, with the ball looping up awkwardly and landing on top of the bar. It almost caught Pickford out but Burn has to head clear.
England 1-0 Albania
20:15 , Jamie Braidwood25 mins: Lewis-Skelly, at 18, is the youngest player in history to score on his senior England debut.
England 1-0 Albania
20:12 , Miguel Delaney23 mins: Take-off for Tuchel, and especially Myles Lewis-Skelly. A great moment, a lovely goal, and a divine pass. The teenage debutant was rewarded for the bravery of his run, by an utterly brilliant through ball from Bellingham. It has significantly elevated what had been an encouraging if not electric opening 20 minutes of Tuchel's time in charge.
England 1-0 Albania
20:12 , Jamie Braidwood22 mins: He only made his Arsenal debut in September. Now Myles Lewis-Skelly is an England goalscorer!
Beautiful.
GOAL! England 1-0 Albania (LEWIS-SKELLY 20')
20:07 , Jamie BraidwoodIT’S A DREAM GOAL FOR THE TEENAGE DEBUTANT! AMAZING!
What a moment for Myles Lewis-Skelly! It’s a brilliant ball through from Bellingham to find the left back’s run, and the Arsenal star finds the finish through the goalkeeper’s legs! He’s clearly emotional as he is mobbed by his team-mates in the corner!
Tuchel punches his fist!
England 0-0 Albania
20:05 , Jamie Braidwood16 mins: Almost a chance for England! Kane bounces through the challenges and breaks into the box, keeping the ball close. But Albania’s goalkeeper Strakosha comes off his line and claims before Kane can try and finish.
England 0-0 Albania
20:04 , Miguel Delaney14 mins: After all that, it's ultimately just a dull World Cup qualifier.
England 0-0 Albania
20:02 , Jamie Braidwood13 mins: A touch for Jones in the box, but pinned onto the byline. He almost wriggles through to set up Kane but Albania clear.
England 0-0 Albania
20:01 , Jamie Braidwood12 mins: Dan Burn wins a bullet header on the halfway line, after Albania went long. It almost leads to an England chance as Kane, dropping deep, spins a ball towards Rashford. It runs a touch too long and Albania clear.
England 0-0 Albania
19:59 , Jamie Braidwood11 mins: A first proper touch for Rashford, but he can’t find Bellingham with the pull-back.
Rashford goes again but there’s no room in the box and England’s move breaks down. Walker quickly regains it and England start again.
England 0-0 Albania
19:58 , Jamie Braidwood10 mins: Lewis-Skelly passes his first little defensive test, as he scampers back to cut out the pass from Asani and draws a foul facing his own goal.
England 0-0 Albania
19:55 , Jamie Braidwood7 mins: I think we’ve all seen England games at Wembley where they dominate the ball as the opposition sit deep... and very little happens. Let’s see if Tuchel’s England can find a way through because Albania have everyone positioned behind the ball.
A long switch to Foden goes out of play.
England 0-0 Albania
19:53 , Jamie Braidwood4 mins: After a period of two to three minutes on the ball, Walker clips a pass to Bellingham, who breaks into the box. It almost falls to the Real Madrid star but Albania clear.
England 0-0 Albania
19:51 , Jamie Braidwood2 mins: Plenty of early touches for the England midfield, with Jones, Rice and Bellingham seeing lots of it. Albania are very deep. Foden and Rashford are staying wide, and Kane is keeping clear on the edge of the box.
England 0-0 Albania
19:49 , Jamie Braidwood1 min: Albania are no mugs. They scored after just 30 seconds against Italy at the Euros. Fortunately for Tuchel, England have avoided that at Wembley. Pickford takes an early free kick long.
KICK-OFF! England 0-0 Albania
19:47 , Jamie BraidwoodWe are underway at Wembley! The Thomas Tuchel era has started.

Thomas Tuchel explains his first England team and describes his emotions
19:42 , Jamie Braidwood"Big occasion. I'm a bit nervous, but more excited and happy we get the journey going.
"It was a simple decision to bring [Dan Burn] in. He had that huge final and impact here a few days ago. We didn't wasnt to disrupt his wave. We opted for Dan and he was impressive in training and vocal.
"It felt like his 50th cap and not his first one.
Impressive. I understand why everyone loves the boy [Myles Lewis-Skelly] - a big character and very talented player. He is ready to go."
England vs Albania
19:41 , Jamie BraidwoodHere we go! Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge is just moments away. Tuchel will observe the anthems, which are next.
Thomas Tuchel makes national anthem vow
19:39 , Jamie BraidwoodThomas Tuchel said last week that he feels he has to “earn the right” to sing the national anthem, so won’t do so for his first England games.
The new manager says he wants to get to the point where supporters feel “he should sing it now, he’s one of our own”.
Tuchel makes national anthem vow and reveals England plan for Kane
Inside Thomas Tuchel’s grand plan – and the reason England hired him
19:31 , Miguel DelaneyOne of the first things England’s young players noticed was how much Thomas Tuchel likes a laugh. He made them feel at ease. It’s an attitude that comes in handy for a question he was always going to get. England’s new German manager was naturally asked about 1966, and the manner of the men’s national team’s only ever trophy victory. Did Geoff Hurst’s second goal cross the line?
“There is still debate,” Tuchel chuckles. “I don’t think so but there was no VAR at this time so it stands!”
As good-humoured as all of this was, it should be acknowledged other managers would panic about saying something diplomatic. Tuchel just goes with it, knowing not to take certain aspects too seriously, because he saves that for the actual work. Duly, the atmosphere around training can instantly go from relaxed to intense
There is a deeper reason for that, too.
Inside Thomas Tuchel’s grand plan – and the reason England hired him
Marcus Rashford plays first England match in almost a year
19:23 , Jamie BraidwoodThere’s a smile back on Marcus Rashford’s face after he was left out of England’s squad for the Euros, and was then overlooked by interim manager Lee Carsley.
The change of scene has helped at Aston Villa, as well as a fresh face in charge. Thomas Tuchel offers a clean start, but Rashford will know the competition is fierce and he will have to deliver.
Harry Kane believes growing ‘aura’ could lead to Ballon d’Or: ‘I feel more respected’
19:21 , Miguel DelaneyHarry Kane is targeting the Ballon D'Or this year, believing Bayern Munich's competitiveness gives him the chance he never had at Tottenham Hotspur.
The striker credited new England manager Thomas Tuchel for persuading him to join the club, as he now gets closer to the first domestic title of his career in the Bundesliga, while also having a real chance in the Champions League.
Kane, who has scored 32 goals in 37 games for Bayern this season, believes he now has more of an "aura" and "respect" as an elite player, simply by being at the club, and when the 31-year-old was directly asked if winning the Ballon D'Or was on his mind replied: “100 per cent”.
Harry Kane on how growing ‘aura’ could lead to Ballon d’Or: ‘I feel more respected’
How Dan Burn went from Asda shifts to England call – and proved everyone wrong
19:11 , Richard JollyHarry Kane and Jude Bellingham spent Euro 2024 in Germany, in Blankenhain and Berlin, Dusseldorf and Dortmund, Frankfurt and Cologne. Dan Burn spent it in an Airbnb. It was another indication of the parallel lives of England’s resident superstars and the call-up with the most improbable back story in years, perhaps since Rickie Lambert or Chris Powell. Thomas Tuchel’s maiden selection was expected to contain men from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. It also included a player whose CV features Darlington, Yeovil and Asda.
Richard Jolly explores the rise of England’s debutant, Dan Burn, who has enjoyed quite the week.
How Dan Burn went from Asda shifts to England call – and proved everyone wrong
'A surprising England team - especially in defence'
19:07 , Miguel DelaneyMaybe a slightly surprising team for Tuchel's first match, certainly in defence, where there are two debutants. That perhaps illustrates long-term issues with the squad, and maybe it's better the manager tries to address all this now rather than steadily going with what was there.
By the same token, both Myles Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn have been in such exhilarating form. The other noteworthy inclusions are Curtis Jones in the middle and Marcus Rashford straight back in, having mostly been a sub for Aston Villa.
There was a great atmosphere at Wembley three hours beforehand, mostly due to the energy of Albanian fans.
Thomas Tuchel explains what England were missing at Euro 2024: ‘They were afraid’
19:01 , Jamie BraidwoodTuchel’s message to his England players tonight? Be brave and take chances; excite the crowd.
The German said England were “afraid” in the Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain and has urged his players to free themselves from the pressure of the England jersey.
Thomas Tuchel explains what England were missing at Euro 2024: ‘They were afraid’
England team news: Marcus Rashford returns
18:51 , Jamie BraidwoodRashford has not played for England since a 1-0 defeat to Brazil on 23 March 2024. Almost a year later, his decision to get out of Manchester United and join Aston Villa on loan has been vindicated, as his improved form results in a return to the England team.
England team news: Two debutants in Thomas Tuchel's first team
18:41 , Jamie BraidwoodSix days on from his heroics in the Carabao Cup final, Dan Burn starts for England at Wembley and wins his first cap. He will play alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly, another debutant named by Thomas Tuchel.
Jordan Pickford is in goal and Kyle Walker is at right back. Ezri Konsa joins Burn at centre-back, with Lewis Skelly at left back.
Curtis Jones joins Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in midfield. Phil Foden starts on the right with Marcus Rashford returning to start on the left. Harry Kane leads the line.
England debuts for Myles Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn
18:26 , Jamie BraidwoodMyles Lewis-Skelly and Dan Burn make their England debuts against Albania. Curtis Jones and Marcus Rashford are also included in the first team named by Thomas Tuchel.
Breaking: England line-up confirmed
18:24 , Jamie BraidwoodEngland XI: Pickford, Walker, Konsa, Burn, Lewis-Skelly; Rice, Bellingham, Jones; Foden, Kane, Rashford
Subs: D Henderson,Trafford, James, Guehi, J Henderson, Colwill, Eze, Rogers,Gordon, Solanke, Bowen, Livramento.
England team news: Marc Guehi on the bench
18:23 , Jamie BraidwoodDan Burn and Ezri Konsa will be Thomas Tuchel’s centre-backs tonight. A debut for Burn, and what a moment for him, but a big decision to bench Marc Guehi - who is England’s most experienced centre-back at the moment with John Stones and Harry Maguire injured.
England team news: Three players left out of matchday squad
18:10 , Jamie BraidwoodThomas Tuchel has reportedly left three players out of his matchday squad to face Albania, with the new England head coach limited to a matchday group of 23 players.
Morgan Gibbs-White has been told that be will play no part in tonight’s game, along with Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and Liverpool centre-back Jarell Quansah.
Gibbs-White, who has impressed with Nottingham Forest this season, was a late call-up to the squad to replace the injured Cole Palmer.
Curtis Jones set for England appearance?
18:00 , Jamie BraidwoodCurtis Jones has been one of the names mentioned to have impressed Thomas Tuchel this week.
The Liverpool midfielder was impressive on his debut in England’s 3-0 win over Greece in Athens in November.
Could he be a contender to play in midfield, alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham?
'The road to 2026 starts here'
17:53 , Jamie BraidwoodWembley is preparing for the historic occasion of Thomas Tuchel’s first game in charge.
The German is on the front of the match programme and his face is also on the big screens, with less than two hours until kick-off.
A good omen for England?
17:45 , Mike JonesA random fact but one that will please England fans.
The Three Lions have won 16 of their last 17 internationals against nations whose name begins with A (one draw), keeping 15 clean sheets.
The last ‘A’ nation to beat England was Australia at Upton Park back in February 2003, while in a competitive match it was Argentina at the 1986 World Cup.
When is England vs Albania?
17:32 , Jamie BraidwoodThe match will kick-off at 7:45pm GMT on Friday 21 March at Wembley Stadium.
England vs Albania will be shown live on ITV 1 and ITV X, with coverage getting underway from 7pm.

Tuchel to try and find missing piece
13:03 , Mike JonesThomas Tuchel is adamant his side can find the missing piece on the road to the 2026 World Cup, hoping to discover excitement for winning rather than the fear of losing.
He explained: “The identity, the clarity, the rhythm, the repetition of patterns, the freedom of players, the expresson of players, the hunger [were all missing at Euro 2024].
“They [the players] were more afraid to drop out of the tournament in my observation, than having the excitement and hunger to win it.”
Tuchel on his first match in charge
12:49 , Mike JonesNaturally much of the build-up to this game has been about Thomas Tuchel as it is his first game in charge of England.
He said: “I just hope so much that they [the fans] can see what I see on a daily basis, and they can transform it into the stadium. What I’ve seen in the last few days is amazing and it’s been a joy to watch and be a part of it.
“It’s amazing to have a full Wembley and I will be a bit nervous but that’s part of it, I’m always a bit nervous before matches so this will not be different. I’m excited and hopefully we can prove the point and take the first step.
“I feel the pressure, but I feel it as a privilege. In my coaching career, I’ve adapted to that and found methods to cope with it.”
