Eagles proposed an idea for NFL OT rules that could prevent games from ending in a tie
The NFL's league meetings are in two weeks, and while the Packers are looking to eliminate the 'Tush Push,' Philadelphia brass have an idea that'll actually benefit the sport. According to the NFL media, the Eagles proposed aligning the regular-season overtime rules with the postseason rules, potentially eliminating ties in NFL games.
With their call to amend Rule 16, Section 1, Philadelphia wants to align the postseason and regular season overtime rules by granting both teams an opportunity to possess the ball regardless of the outcome of the first possession, subject to a 15-minute overtime period in the regular season.
As the rule currently states, overtime in the regular season is ten minutes, and if both teams haven't scored, the game ends in a tie.
Clubs will discuss the following proposed rule changes during upcoming league meetings. To be adopted, all proposals must be approved by 75% (24) of the owners.
