Douglas Luiz: Nottingham Forest eye Juventus deal for Champions League push
Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest are reportedly planning to come back in with an offer to sign Douglas Luiz from Juventus during the summer transfer window as they prepare for a potential return to the Champions League for the first time in over 40 years.
According to Saturday’s reports from Tuttosport, Forest are keen on the idea of bringing Douglas Luiz in to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad ahead of a potential Champions League campaign in 2025-26.
Forest are currently third in the Premier League standings with nine games to go. The Premier League is also nailed on to receive an additional spot in next season’s Champions League, which means that a fifth place finish will likely be enough to qualify.
Forest had also been interested in a potential deal for Douglas Luiz during the January transfer window, but the Bianconeri decided not to part ways with one of their marquee summer signings.
According to Tuttosport, Edu Gaspar is one of the key figures pushing for Douglas Luiz’s arrival. Saturday’s report claims that the sporting director had also attempted to bring him to North London on a number of occasions while the Brazilian was still at Aston Villa.
How could Forest pinch Douglas Luiz from Juventus?
For Juventus, the priority will be recouping as much of the fee that they spent on Douglas Luiz as possible.
Juventus officially paid €50m to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa during the last summer transfer window, although Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior moved in the opposite direction in separate deals for a combined fee of €25m at the same time.
Sunday’s reports claim that Forest are most likely to offer Juventus a season-long loan deal with a potential obligation to buy under certain sporting conditions.
