Bayern Munich have confirmed that they will be without two key players in Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano for the foreseeable future, which provides a boost for Simone Inzaghi and Inter ahead of the Champions League quarter-finals coming up in March.
Bayern suffer double injury blow ahead of Inter
Bayern have confirmed that Alphonso Davies ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the recent CONCACAF Nations League third place play-off, which rules him out of the remainder of the 2024-25 season and a large chunk of the 2025-26 campaign as well.
Upamecano has also suffered a knee injury, and though not quite as serious as Davies’s, he is also expected to be sidelined for several weeks, which rules him out of the first leg against Inter and likely the second as well.
Initial reports suggest that Raphael Guerreiro is the likely candidate to replace Davies at left-back, and either Eric Dier or Hiroki Ito to replace Upamecano.
Inter will take on Vincent Kompany’s side over two legs of the Champions League quarter-final beginning at the Allianz Arena on April 8. The two teams will face each other again in San Siro the following week, on April 16.
