Dolphins bringing back starting nose tackle Benito Jones
The Miami Dolphins re-signed defensive lineman Benito Jones, the team announced Thursday morning.
Jones, 27, began his career with the Miami Dolphins and returned to the team in 2024 after two seasons with the Detroit Lions. In a battle with veterans like Teair Tart, Neville Gallimore, and Jonathan Harris, Jones came out on top and became the Dolphins' full-time starter at nose tackle.
Keeping Jones was important for the Dolphins with Zach Sieler set to be the only starting defensive lineman to return in 2025. The only other linemen under contract are Neil Farrell and Matt Dickerson, who both spent time on Miami's practice squad last season.
In his 2024 season with the Dolphins, Jones recorded four tackles for loss and three quarterback hits. However, his 51.3 grade from PFF was the worst among Miami defensive starters set to return in 2025.
For now, it's unclear if Calais Campbell plans to return for an 18th season in the NFL or if the Dolphins would even be able to retain the 38-year-old free agent. Regardless, Miami could use long-term help on the defensive line and perhaps an upgrade from Jones at nose tackle. But keeping the lineman keeps the Dolphins from entering the 2025 NFL draft with their cupboard completely bare.
