Detroit Tigers sign outfielder Manuel Margot to 1-year MLB contract
The Detroit Tigers have a new outfielder.
Manuel Margot, a right-handed hitter, on Sunday signed a one-year MLB contract with the Tigers, according to multiple people with knowledge of the situation who were granted anonymity because the deal is pending a physical exam.
The Tigers signed Margot for his ability to hit left-handed pitching and play defense in center field.
FIVE THOUGHTS: Tigers enter 2025 season in need of shortstop rental at trade deadline?
Margot, a nine-year MLB veteran, replaces Parker Meadows as the primary center fielder, with Meadows already ruled out for at least another four weeks after missing the past month with an upper arm nerve issue.
The 30-year-old Margot is expected to be active on the Tigers' Opening Day roster, leaving one spot remaining for three position players: Spencer Torkelson, Justyn-Henry Malloy and Jahmai Jones.
Margot was recently released by the Milwaukee Brewers after opting out of his minor league contract.
