Deion Sanders says Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are the ‘surest bets’ in the draft

It has been known for a while that head coach Deion Sanders believes that Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter should go No. 1 and No. 2 overall in the NFL draft, however, when he was asked about it at Colorado's pro day, he doubled down on that take.

Hunter is coming off a historic Heisman-winning season, where he dominated on both sides of the ball. Hunter had eight interceptions with 11 pass deflections on defense while offensively he tallied 1,258 on 96 receptions. In 2024 Sanders threw for 4,134 yards with 37 touchdowns and ten interceptions.

In recent mock drafts, Sanders has fallen to as low as No. 24 overall, with Hunter hanging around the top five. Hunter is locked in to be at least one of the top four picks in the draft, with most having him going No. 4 to the New England Patriots. Where Sanders might go is a different story. His mock drafts have been a rollercoaster; most early mocks had him going top five, but with recent free agent signings many are projecting Sanders to fall.

While Hunter's potential is undeniable, Sanders' is the question mark of the duo. While Coach Prime is of course going to back his son, most talking heads have their uncertainties about him. Sanders says they are the "surest bets" highlighting Hunter as once in a lifetime player and Shedeur as one of the top passers in the country.

It is not out of the realm of possibility that Hunter and Sanders go back-to-back at the top of the draft, but it would still be a surprise to most. Perhaps a more likely scenario would be the pair landing with the same team. A few mock drafts have Hunter going to the Browns at No. 2 overall and then Cleveland trading back into the first round to select Sanders. That would be quite the draft day coup for the Browns and would be a fantastic storyline to follow if it were to happen.

Who knows what will happen on draft day, but Deion Sanders certainly believes Shedeur and Travis are worthy top picks.
