Dawn Staley, Coach Yo share laugh on TV before South Carolina vs UConn national championship game

Ole Miss women’s basketball coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin has made appearances at the Final Four in Tampa, Florida, this weekend, including a viral moment on TV with South Carolina coach Dawn Staley.

McPhee-McCuin, who’s Rebels were eliminated in the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 by UCLA on March 28, was a guest on "SEC Now" during Saturday's South Carolina shootaround before Sunday's national championship game. Staley crashed the interview as McPhee-McCuin was talking about South Carolina, and the two coaches shared a laugh.

"I'm giving them the gameplan, coach," McPhee-McCuin said. "... I told them they can't scout for you."

"She's taking over the program," Staley replied.

"Who's taking over the program? Me or the Chief?" McPhee-McCuin said, pointing to Staley.

The No. 1 seed Gamecocks (35-3) play No. 2 UConn (36-3) on Sunday (2 p.m. CT, ABC) at Amalie Arena. A win for South Carolina would be its third national championship in the last four seasons.

McPhee-McCuin complimented South Carolina's depth and pointed to Joyce Edwards' performance in South Carolina's 74-57 semifinal win versus Texas. Edwards scored 13 points with 11 rebounds and six assists off the bench.

"The whole group because you don't know who's going to come to play," McPhee-McCuin said. "They all did, but Joyce was the star. She showed up at the right time."

Ole Miss lost to South Carolina 75-59 in Oxford in the only game between the two teams this season.
