On Friday, Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill announced the signing of German goaltender Arno Tiefensee to a two-year entry-level contract that will begin in 2025-26.
Tiefensee was picked in the fifth round, 157th overall, by the Stars in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
This past season with Adler Mannheim, the 22-year-old netminder played in 29 of Mannheim’s 52 games, posting three shutouts with a goals-against average of 2.27 and a save percentage of .912 as Mannheim finished fourth in the DEL standings. He then played all 10 of his team’s playoff games with similar numbers as Die Adler were bounced in the semifinals by defending champion Eisbären Berlin.
Tiefensee also played two games for Germany in the Deutschland Cup on home ice in November.
“First of all, I would like to thank all the Adler fans who have supported us unconditionally over the past three years – it has always meant a lot to me to be able to play in front of them,” Tiefensee is quoted in a club press release. “A big thank you also goes to the Adler, to Felix, to our goaltending coach Petri Vehanen, and to my parents, who have all played a huge role in enabling me to take the next step in my career.”
"We are very proud of Arno and the news that he has signed with the Dallas Stars,” said Mannheim sports manager and head coach Dallas Eakins. “Arno’s commitment to our club, our organization, and his career is simply impressive. The Stars are one of the best-run organizations in the NHL, and we know Arno is in good hands as he takes the next step in his career.
“We want to thank Arno for being an excellent teammate and a positive influence on all of us, and we wish him the best of luck in the future. We will be cheering him on.”
