Could Tammy Abraham Reignite His Career at Aston Villa This Summer?
Tammy Abraham Eyes Aston Villa Return Amid Premier League Interest
Aston Villa’s summer transfer plans are beginning to take shape, with a familiar face potentially returning to Villa Park. According to Football Insider, Tammy Abraham has told friends he is “very keen” to rejoin Aston Villa as he eyes a Premier League comeback following a challenging period in Italy.
Abraham’s Struggles Since Leaving Chelsea
The 27-year-old forward has endured a turbulent few years. After leaving Chelsea for Roma in 2021, Abraham initially flourished, netting 27 goals in his debut Serie A campaign and playing a pivotal role in their UEFA Conference League triumph. However, his progress has since been hampered by inconsistent form and, more significantly, an ACL injury suffered on the final day of the 2022-23 season.
Now on loan at AC Milan, the England international has been working his way back to full fitness. Despite his recovery, opportunities in Italy appear limited, prompting interest from Premier League clubs keen to capitalise on his situation.
Aston Villa and Everton Among Interested Clubs
Unai Emery’s Villa side are reportedly on the lookout for attacking reinforcements, with Abraham viewed as a potential replacement for Jhon Duran, should the Colombian depart this summer. Everton, also in need of a proven goal-scorer, are monitoring the situation closely.
Abraham’s affinity with Villa is well-documented. During the 2018-19 season, he spearheaded their promotion campaign while on loan from Chelsea, scoring 26 goals in 40 appearances and forging a strong bond with the club’s supporters. Villa wanted to sign him permanently at the time, but he opted to stay at Stamford Bridge to fight for his place.
His subsequent two seasons at Chelsea yielded 30 goals before he sought a new challenge in Italy. However, with Roma’s managerial uncertainties and Milan’s reluctance to trigger a permanent move, a return to England appears increasingly likely.
Potential First Signing of Villa’s Summer Rebuild
As Villa target reinforcements to strengthen their squad ahead of a potential Champions League campaign next season, former CEO Keith Wyness has suggested that Marco Asensio could become the club’s first summer signing. Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness stated: “Asensio will become the first Aston Villa signing this summer.”
The Spanish international has impressed since arriving on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, registering seven goals in his first eight appearances. While Villa do not have an automatic purchase option, Emery and Monchi are expected to push for a permanent deal. Should that happen, Abraham’s potential arrival would further enhance Villa’s attacking options.
Our View – EPL Index Analysis
The idea of Tammy Abraham returning feels like an opportunity too good to pass up. His last stint at the club was electric, with goals, passion, and a real connection with the supporters. Having seen him develop since then, most notably excelling in Serie A, there’s a belief that he could return an even better player.
While his ACL injury is a concern, modern rehabilitation methods have allowed many players to return to top form after similar setbacks. Villa fans will be reassured by the knowledge that if Emery and Monchi pursue him, it’s because they believe he can still be a top-class striker.
A forward line featuring Abraham and potentially Marco Asensio would significantly strengthen Villa’s attacking options. If Abraham can replicate even half of his previous output, his signing could prove to be one of the smartest moves of the summer transfer window. With European ambitions in mind, Villa need quality depth, and Abraham fits the bill perfectly.
