Contract renewal of 22-year-old Real Madrid star on hold due to legal dispute
Real Madrid have decided to put contract renewal talks with Raul Asencio on hold until his legal situation is fully resolved, claims a report from Onda Cero (h/t SPORT).
The outlet mentions that the young centre-back, whose current deal runs until June 30, 2026, is currently the subject of an ongoing judicial matter.
The club has taken a cautious approach regarding Asencio’s contract extension due to his involvement in a legal case related to an alleged tape of a minor recorded by several Real Madrid academy players.
Given the sensitivity of the issue, the club has opted to delay negotiations until a final verdict is reached.
Asencio’s current contract situation
Despite the complications, Real Madrid’s intention is to extend his contract by four more seasons, keeping him at the club until 2030. However, they will only move forward if the legal proceedings conclude in his favour.
As things stand, the club remains hopeful that he will be acquitted and that discussions regarding his future can resume without any obstacles.
Asencio’s contract includes a release clause of €50 million, giving Real Madrid full control over his immediate future. The club is in no rush to make a decision, given that he is already tied to them for another two years.
Their priority is to wait for legal clarity before taking any definitive steps regarding his renewal.
Spain national team snub raises questions
Meanwhile, Spain manager Luis de la Fuente made a surprising decision by leaving Asencio out of the squad for the recent match against the Netherlands.
This unexpected exclusion raised eyebrows, as even the player himself did not anticipate being dropped from the team.
Instead of selecting Asencio, De la Fuente opted to call up Dean Huijsen. This decision has led to speculation that the coach may lack confidence in Asencio, possibly due to the controversy surrounding him.
With both his club and national team situation up in the air, Asencio finds himself at a crucial juncture in his career.
Real Madrid will wait for legal proceedings to unfold before deciding whether to move forward with his renewal, while his chances of returning to the Spanish squad remain uncertain.
