Commanders rank 3rd in NFC after first wave of free agency
We're officially into the second week of free agency and teams' rosters for 2025 are starting to take shape. There will still be many changes before the 53-man rosters are finalized ahead of the season opener, but we can begin to gauge each team's goals.
The Washington Commanders made some big moves during free agency, attempting to improve upon what they already had. CBS Sports recently ranked each NFC team after the initial wave of free agency, and the Commanders were high on the list.
The Commanders are a conference title contender with Jayden Daniels at quarterback, and Washington took care of his blind side by acquiring Tunsil and added another dimension to the offense with Samuel. The offense is better than last year's version, but what about the defense?Washington needs a pass rusher who can consistently get to the quarterback, and Kinlaw doesn't move the needle much on the interior. Keeping Bobby Wagner was massive for that unit. A tougher schedule in 2025 could also affect the Commanders in the early going, but this team has the talent to make a playoff run again.
Considering the Commanders were the NFC's runner-up in 2024 and the weapons they added just in Deebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil, it's no surprise that they are ranked so high. It is somewhat surprising they weren't second behind the Eagles, but that's okay. The Commanders are used to the snubs, and it will only serve to make them work harder in 2025.
