Colts CB Charvarius Ward hasn't forgotten about former team moving on from him
Chavarius Ward was a Super Bowl champion in Kansas City, an All-Pro in San Francisco, and now just signed with the Indianapolis Colts. However, he still hasn't forgotten how his career started with the Dallas Cowboys.
Ward went undrafted in 2018 out of Middle Tennessee State and originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted rookie. Ward believed that he was going to make the Cowboys' 53-man roster in his first season, but instead, Dallas traded him to the Chiefs.
"In training camp and OTAs, I was strappin' them boys," said Ward via the Colts team site. "The 3s that I was going against, the 2s that I was going against, the 1s that I was going against, I was strappin' all them boys. I thought I was going to make the team in Dallas, but Dallas don't make a lot of good decisions, so they ended up trading me to Kansas City."
Ward signed a three-year, $54 million deal with the Colts at the start of free agency, which included $35 million guaranteed.
Beyond his on-field production over his career, skill set-wise, he is a good fit for Lou Anarumo's scheme. In this more aggressive system under Anarumo, Ward's ability to be left on an island and play press coverage is going to be quite valuable when it comes to getting the most out of this system.
As mentioned, Ward would go on to win a Super Bowl with the Chiefs in 2019. He was named an All-Pro with the 49ers in 2023, along with going to another Super Bowl that year as well. He has 10 career interceptions and 70 pass deflections as well.
