A few area teams have begun to standout already early on in the spring season.
Lenawee Christian girls soccer and Onsted baseball are a couple who had big weeks this week and look like they're in store for special seasons.
BASEBALL
Xavier Gibbs tossed a five-inning no-hitter to open LCAA play as Onsted beat Hillsdale, 10-0, with Gibbs allowing three walks while striking out eight.
JT Hill and Lucas Arnold each hit triples in the win. The Wildcats won Game 2, 19-2. Hill hit a triple while Luke Manders hit a double with two RBIs and Carsen Wonders had two hits with a double and five RBIs. Talan Hutchinson went 2 2/3 innings and gave up two runs, on four hits and a walk while striking out four.
Onsted then went on to win the Hanover Horton Invite after beating Charlotte, 4-1, and LCAA rival Clinton, 2-0.
Gibbs went 4 2/3 innings and gave up an unearned run, on one hit and one walk while striking out 10. Logan Boellner went 2-for-3 with a double. In the final against Clinton, Hill went 3-for-3 with a double while Lucas Arnold drove in a run and tossed 5 1/3 shutout innings and gave up five hits and five walks while striking out seven. Hill also recorded the save in both games.
The Redwolves beat Hanover Horton, 4-0, in the other game with Andy Fair tossing a shutout, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out five. Jalen Stelzer was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Calen Keith hit a double.
Clinton posted a seven-run comeback to force extra innings against Blissfield before Stelzer hit a game-winning home run in the eighth to win, 11-9. Quinn Walden got the win, going 1 2/3 innings and giving up no runs, on one hit and a walk while striking out two.
Cody Coopshaw hit a double for the Royals while Jon Cheney had two hits with an RBI and Blake Iffland had two hits with two RBIs.
Madison swept Jonesville with two blowouts, 16-5 and 21-3. Brian Dopp went 4-for-7 with two home runs, a double and four RBIs while Norman Frederick went 4-for-6 with a home run and six RBIs and C Randall went 3-for-4 with a double and five RBIs.
Sand Creek, after picking up two wins last week, is 3-0 with a TCC win now as the Aggies beat Britton Deerfield, 18-3. Ivan Wilkinson got the win, going 4 2/3 innings and giving up three runs, on two hits and striking out 12. Reid Hulett was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Carter Bettcher was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Andon Sutherland was 2-for-3, Wilkinson had a double and two RBIs and Dane Morrin had a double with two RBIs and three runs.
The Aggies fell to Evergreen, 12-0.
