BREAKING: Canucks’ Quinn Hughes Hits 400 Points Against The Rangers
Only five months after becoming the third-fastest defenseman to reach 300 career assists, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes has hit 400 points in his NHL career. His 400th point came off Dakota Joshua’s 1–0 goal against the New York Rangers. He reaches the 400-point mark with 421 games played, averaging a nearly point per game rate throughout his career.

BREAKING (Records): Canucks Kiefer Sherwood Smashes NHL Season Hit Record Versus New York
A Look At The 41 Canucks Who Have Helped Quinn Hughes Rack Up 340 Career Assists
Even before his debut, many insisted that Hughes will go down as the best defenseman in Canucks history. He set the record for career assists by a Canucks defenseman back on December 1 of 2024, passing Alex Edler with 311. He currently has 341, and 51 total on the season. Now that he has hit 400 career points, he is only nine points away from tying Edler’s record for most career points by a Canucks defenseman (409).
Hughes’ first NHL point came in his NHL debut against the L.A. Kings on March 28, 2019. In typically Hughes fashion, he made a beautiful play to bank the puck to himself against the Kings’ net before shooting, allowing Brock Boeser to collect the rebound and score. It was a remarkable indicator of what the Canucks and their fans could come to expect from such a talented player. This night also served as a “passing of the torch” of sorts, as it was the same night that Edler broke the franchise record for career goals scored by a defenseman.
Throughout his career, when playing more than 50 games in a season, Hughes has not finished with less than 40 points. He set career-highs in goals, assists, and points in a season last year with 17 goals and 75 assists, earning him his first ever James Norris Memorial Trophy. Had it not been for his injury issues this season, Hughes likely would have broken his personal records yet again, as before today he was at 16 goals and 66 points in 55 games played.
As mentioned, the next record Hughes will likely break is Edler’s franchise points record of 409. It’s highly probable that he could surpass 409 career points in half the time that it took Edler (925 games) to reach this total. Regardless, it’s clear that the Canucks struck gold when selecting Hughes seventh overall in the 2018 NHL Draft.
