Colorado's pro day went down Friday afternoon, and it was the place to be if you were an NFL executive, scout, or coach. Representatives from all 32 teams were in attendance to watch a 16-player contingent workout headlined by Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.
Sanders and Hunter did not participate in athletic testing. Still, Sanders did throw to Hunter and three of Colorado's other draft-eligible receivers, Jimmy Horn Jr., LaJohntay Wester and Will Sheppard. Colorado sophomore receiver Drelon Miller, who is not draft-eligible, also ran routes.
Large contingents from the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants were especially interested in Colorado's two stars.
Here are my takeaways from the star-studded Colorado "NFL Showcase:"
Travis Hunter ran routes instead of defensive back drills
It has been well documented that Hunter wants to play both cornerback and wide receiver in the NFL. However, on Friday, instead of performing defensive back drills, Hunter caught passes from Shedeur. Perhaps Hunter was helping his teammate out, but I would guess there is more meaning behind the decision.
Some NFL teams won't be big fans of letting Hunter play both ways, so it could be that Hunter knows that and decided to show his offensive skills. He also could choose to play receiver as his primary role if a team only gave him one option.
Most believe it is harder to find a lockdown cornerback, likely meaning Hunter would be better off financially playing defense, but he did not choose that path on Friday, which is noteworthy.
Will Sheppard could be a draft steal
Sheppard was a big-bodied red zone threat in his only year at Colorado. He hauled in six touchdowns, with most of them seemingly coming on jump balls in the endzone. His athleticism was on full display Friday as he recorded an impressive 40.5-inch vertical, the best mark among all participants. At the NFL combine, only Iowa State's Jaylin Noel and Miami's Sam Brown jumped higher both with humps at 41.5 inches. Sheppard could make an NFL team look smart for drafting him.
Drelon Miller gave scouts an early preview
