Bengals' best free-agent fit left is veteran DB, says analyst

The Cincinnati Bengals kept things simple in free agency, opting for a handful of mid-range signings that included bringing their own guys back.

As a result, Zac Taylor and the Bengals will need to hit some major needs during the upcoming draft and possibly have some wiggle room to add free agents after that process and into the summer, too.

One of those remaining free agents who could still help, as pointed out by Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox, is veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore:

"Stephon Gilmore will turn 35 in September but could help with the Bengals' defensive transition this season. He started 15 games for the Minnesota Vikings in 2024 and would, presumably, prefer to land with another playoff-caliber team this year."

Gilmore is way beyond the age bracket the Bengals like to sign. But at the same time, it's easy to see the team making an Eli Apple-type move at cornerback, especially if they don't draft one.

After all, cornerback remains a big question mark for the team. Cam Taylor-Britt dramatically regressed last year, while Dax Hill and DJ Turner suffered injuries. Mike Hilton, at least for now, isn't on the team anymore, too.

Someone like Gilmore, who always figured to take his time into the summer to sign somewhere, could make sense for a team that wants to develop younger guys and win now.
