Beavers finish 2nd at Upper Iowa Invitational

Apr. 7—WATERLOO, Iowa. — Seven members of the Bemidji State men's golf team finished inside the top 20 at the Upper Iowa Invitational. The Beavers finished second among 12 teams at the tournament held at the Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa over the weekend.

The Beavers sent all 16 student-athletes to compete at the two-round, two-day tournament, with the A team placing second with a team score of 605 (307-298) and eight strokes behind tournament champion William Jewell.

Senior Tate Usher led the Beavers carding a six-over-par 150 (76-74) and tied for sixth individually. He was closely followed by graduate senior Koby Kuenzel, who tied for 10th with an eight-over par 152 (78-74). Jack Southard (76-77), Brogan Paschal (81-73) and Logan Schoepp (77-78) rounded out the Beavers' A team and all placed in the top 20.

Bemidji State also sent 11 student-athletes to compete as individuals. Ryan Schmit (77-78) led the group carding a career-low 155. Alex Tanner also shot 155 (80-75) to close out the Beavers' top-20 finishers.

Tanner Wanous (83-73), Rory Wutzke (81-77), Teagan LaPlante (87-73), Ryan Nelson (78-82), Charlie Williams (80-80), Caden Lick (84-77), Cullen Ryan (76-85), Cody Card (84-82) and Riley McGovern (85-83) all competed at the tournament.

The Beavers will wait until April 15, when they travel to Spring Hill, Kan., for a match-play round against Rockhurst, before beginning the NSIC Men's Golf Championships April 17-18 in Blue Springs, Mo.
