BASEBALL: Claremore loses second straight in Southeast Shootout
Through two games in the Southeast Shootout, Broken Bow hasn’t been kind to Claremore.
After suffering their first loss of the season Monday, the Zebras couldn’t bounce back Tuesday, falling 8-4 to Community Christian.
The Royals (6-2) took control early, striking first in the bottom of the first inning when Jaden Bowers lined a two-run single to right field for a 2-0 lead.
Claremore (9-2) cut the deficit in half in the third when Dan Harrington drove in Lucas DuPont with an RBI single, but CCS blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
Dax Crawford and Bowers were both hit by pitches with the bases loaded, forcing in runs before a balk allowed another score. Grant Haney added an RBI single while two more runs crossed on an error, putting the Royals in firm control at 8-1.
The Zebras attempted a late rally in the seventh, with Tyler Osgood getting hit by a pitch to bring home Kellen Gaede. Harrington then delivered again with a two-run double to right field, scoring Ryder Garrison and Connor Rowe, but it was too little, too late.
Elijah Williams dominated on the mound for CCS, allowing only two hits and one run over six innings while striking out 12.
Zach Hale took the loss for Claremore despite a solid performance, striking out six over four innings while allowing just two unearned runs on three hits.
Harrington led the Zebras offensively with two hits and three RBIs, while Bowers and Haney paced CCS with two hits each. The Royals also showed discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks, and played flawless defense without committing an error.
Claremore will look to regroup Wednesday when it travels to Idabel for a matchup against Stephenville (Texas) at 4 p.m. before closing out the tournament Thursday morning against Washington back in Broken Bow.
