Ashland's Kennedy Lacey named All-Area Girls Basketball Player of the Year
Yesterday, the Ashland Times-Gazette's choice for All-Area Boys Basketball Player of the Year was named. Today, we focus on the girls basketball side.
And that pick was Ashland sophomore forward Kennedy Lacey for All-Area Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
Lacey's Ashland teammates in juniors Camryn Cox and Madison Hoffman, along with Mapleton senior Hailey Bergosh and Loudonville senior Alesha Felix were other strong candidates as well.
The combination of Lacey's individual and team success put her over the top.
After a freshman season where she made herself well-known in the area making the Ohio Cardinal Conference and Division I District 6 First Team, Lacey came back even better in Year Two. She averaged 14.2 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 2.4 APG, 2.1 SPG on 46 FG%, found herself back on the OCC First Team, while being voted OCC Player of the Year.
She was also selected on the Division III District 6 First Team and Division III All-Northwest District First Team.
'The bar has been raised': In defeat, Ashland girls basketball proves it's here to stay
Team-wise, Lacey helped guide the Arrows to possibly the best season in school history.
The Arrows' 20 wins wasn't just the most wins of any girls basketball team in the Ashland County area this season but it also tied the single-season school record. The Arrows were in full control in the Ohio Cardinal Conference from the beginning and posted a 11-1 league record, which was the school's first league title in 30 years. Their Division III district title was the school's first in 46 years.
Considering all that Lacey had her hand in, she feels like the rightful choice for All-Area Player of the Year.
