Angel Reese wins Unrivaled League championship, defensive player of the year
Former LSU women's basketball star Angel Reese is a champion once again, this time winning the first championship for the newly formed Unrivaled Basketball League.
Reese was one of six players on the Rose Basketball Club's roster, which took down Vinyl 62-54 in the championship game. Reese sat out of the semifinals and finals due to a left hand injury but left her mark in the league's inaugural season.
Reese earned the Defensive Player of the Year award and Second-Team All-Unrivaled honors. She let the league in rebounds and notched the first game with 20 points and 20 rebounds. She stood out on a team with Chelsea Gray, who earned the Championship MVP award.
Following the season's end, Reese now turns her attention to getting healthy for her second WNBA season with the Chicago Sky. Drafted with the No. 7 overall pick, Reese averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game and set numerous rookie records. The six-foot-three forward holds the league's record for most consecutive double-doubles.
Reese ended her two-year run at LSU as an NCAA champion and two-time All-American and All-SEC First Teamer. Alongside current Tiger Flau'Jae Johnson, she led the team to its first national championship in program history in head coach Kim Mulkey's second season at the helm.
