Alex Ovechkin scored his 894th career goal Friday evening to tie Wayne Gretzky for most goals in NHL history. His next goal will put him ahead of Gretzky as the league's all-time best goal scorer.
After the goal, his second of the game against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Washington Capitals' 20th-year star went to the glass to exchange a high-five through the glass with his son, Sergei.

As Ovechkin continued to take in the moment, he then turned toward Gretzky, who was in attendance and watching the game in a suite, to point and bowed to acknowledge the NHL legend.
Ovechkin will have a chance to break the record Sunday when the Capitals play at the New York Islanders at 12:30 p.m. ET.
