The Chicago Bears continued their offseason additions with the signings of veteran wide receiver Miles Boykin and cornerback Shaun Wade to one-year deals. The names don't jump off the paper, nor should they expected to have a big impact in their upcoming year with the team, but they do provide depth and their own respective talent to Chicago.
Wade, a veteran cornerback who has been in the league since 2021, comes to the Bears as another member of the secondary led by Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon. While Wade should not be expected to bring more than depth to the roster, it's the second cornerback the team has added after signing Nick McCloud this offseason.
Here are three things to know about new Bears cornerback Shaun Wade:
1. Wade had a highly successful career at Ohio State
During his collegiate career as a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes, Wade was a valuable asset to the team's defense. After he redshirted in his first year, Wade was selected to the All-Big Ten teams in 2019 and 2020. Wade was also named an All-American and the Big Ten Defensive Back of the Year in the 2020 season.
2. Wade is a former fifth-round pick
After finding success in the college ranks, Wade was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft,, which is the team that ironically drafted another recent signee, Miles Boykin. Wade didn't spend much time with the Ravens as he was traded before the regular season began in his rookie year.
3. Bears will be Wade's fourth team
The New England Patriots traded for Wade during his rookie season in 2021. But New England and Baltimore weren't the only teams he played for since entering the league, as he spent the 2024 season with the Los Angeles Chargers.
