2025 NFL draft: Browns host Oregon Football WR Tez Johnson
Hosting one of the biggest outliers in NFL draft history, the Cleveland Browns are making themselves familiar with Oregon Football wide receiver Tez Johnson.
Despite a lackluster combine performance last month, the Browns are giving Oregon stand-out receiver a top-30 visit ahead of the 2025 NFL draft where the team holds 10 picks.
Johnson, who tipped the scales at a scant 154 pounds, the second-lightest measurement in combine history, posted a 4.51-second 40-yard dash, a time that ranked 27th among wide receivers and marked the slowest showing for a receiver under 170 pounds since 2003.
This middling showing, however, doesn't erase Johnson's impressive collegiate resume. Over his career, he amassed 305 receptions for 3,857 yards, averaged 12.6 yards per catch, and found the endzone 28 times. The Browns are likely intrigued by his agility, route-running prowess, and overall playmaking instincts. Explosive playmaking is something that our offense dearly lacked in 2024 outside of the occasional chunk run by Jerome Ford. Johnson draws comparison to the Los Angeles Rams' TuTu Atwell, who recently signed a $10 million contract.
Given the NFL's increasing emphasis on speed and versatility in offensive schemes, Cleveland may be betting on Johnson's game speed over his speed in shorts, envisioning him as a valuable asset in their receiving corps. The top 30 visits will afford the Browns a more in-depth look at Johnson's character, football IQ, and potential fit within their offensive system.
