2 great NFL free agency moves by Arizona Cardinals they hope they don't need
The Arizona Cardinals have been busy in NFL free agency. They have added players on big contracts, re-signed players to modest contracts, added players with some upside and improved the depth with some small ones.
Their biggest moves were adding linebacker Josh Sweat, defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson and quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Two players they signed were great decisions, but in a perfect world in 2025, they won't be needed.
The following are the Cardinals' best two free agency moves that hopefully they never need.
No. 1: QB Jacoby Brissett
The Cardinals spent big money on a backup quarterback, signing the nine-year vet to a two-year, $12.5 million deal. It is the most they have ever spent on a backup quarterback. Brissett is experienced, smart, reliable and rarely turns the ball over.
They are in good shape if Kyler Murray has to come out of a game or miss a start or two.
However, it would be ideal if Murray simply stays healthy all season.
The ideal situation would Brissett never needing to play significant snaps.
No. 2: OT Kelvin Beachum
Beachum gets a one-year deal to return worth up to $4.5 million. He was indispensable last season, as he ended up starting 12 games because of injuries to starting tackles Jonah Williams and Paris Johnson. Not only did he start, he played well.
But in 2025, the ideal scenario is that Johnson plays every game at left tackle and Williams stays healthy at right tackle.
Re-signing Beachum was a great move, but hopefully he only needs to play special teams or as a tackle eligible.
