🏆 Chelsea overcome Man City to lift Women's League Cup trophy
Chelsea came back to win 2-1 against Manchester City to lift the Women's League Cup at Pride Park.
Scorers: RamĂrez 8' Hasegawa (OG) 77'; Fujino 64'
Sonia Bompastor's side took the lead when Lauren James played an inch-perfect through ball to Mayra RamĂrez, and although Ayaka Yamashita made a save from her initial shot, the Colombian was there to tap the rebound home.
Man City pushed for the equaliser throughout the first half but the Chelsea defence were equal to every attack, but just after the hour mark they found the breakthrough after a solo run from Aoba Fujino led to her letting fly with a powerful effort from inside the box that was well beyond goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.
Yet that lead didn't last long as some incredible determination from Lucy Bronze fed subsitute Aggie Beever-Jones, who slipped in RamĂrez on the right, and it was her cross who forced an unfortunate own goal from Yui Hasegawa.
Chelsea held on to see the game out, lifting the first of four possible trophies this season.
The sides will face each other a further four consecutive times in a two-legged Champions League knockout tie and a regular WSL fixture during the next 12 days.
