🦁 Man City slip at home again; Forest flying; Wolves pull clear
There were five Premier League fixtures that took place on Saturday.
Here's what happened.
Brentford pull off comeback win over Bournemouth
Scorers: Janelt 17' (OG); Wissa 30', Nørgaard 71'
Brentford came from a goal behind to pull off a 2-1 away win over Bournemouth.
Bournemouth had the lead when Milos Kerkez made an excellent run into the box and was slipped in by Antoine Semenyo before putting a dangerous cross into the box which was headed by Brentford's Vitaly Janelt.
But the Bees soon hit back, as Yoane Wissa leapt highest to head home from a corner.
Into the second half and Brentford got their second, this time from a long throw into the box, Christian Nørgaard pouncing on the flick-on to finish from close range.
The result puts the Bees up to 11th place, just three points behind Bournemouth.
Brighton battle back twice for City point
Scorers: Haaland (PEN) 11', Marmoush 39'; Estupiñan 21', Khusanov (OG) 48'
The battle for Champions League football produced a classic at the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City and Brighton played out a 2-2 draw which keeps both sides in the shake-up.
Brighton thought they had gotten off to the perfect start when Kaoru Mitoma bundled in from close range early on but the goal was ruled out for knocking the ball out of Stefan Ortega's hands.
Moments later, City hit the front when Omar Marmoush was fouled in the area, allowing Erling Haaland to score from the penalty spot.
In doing so, he reached 100 goal involvements in the Premier League (84 goals and 16 assists), becoming the first player ever to reach that total in fewer than 100 games.
But 10 minutes later, Brighton levelled when Pervis Estupiñan curled a free-kick around the City wall which crept in off the far post.
Parity did not last until the interval and Marmoush put the Cityzens back into the driving seat when he followed through on the crowd's urge to shoot from the edge of the area with a sweet strike.
As they did earlier, the Seagulls responded well and moments after half-time equalised for the second time when Jack Hinshelwood's effort was steered past his own goalkeeper by Abdukodir Khusanov.
With 10 minutes remaining, City came within inches of retaking the lead for a third time - only for the post to deny Nico González as the sides were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
As a result of the point, Pep Guardiola's men sit a point off the top four, while Brighton are just a point further behind them.
Everton rescue unbeaten run at the death
Scorers: O'Brien 90+1'; Souček 67'
A last minute Jake O'Brien equaliser saw Everton preserve their unbeaten record in a 1-1 draw at home to West Ham.
The most notable moment of a scoreless first half came when Everton thought they had been awarded a penalty for a foul in the area - only for VAR to correctly intervene and overturn the decision.
Finally, the opener arrived on 67 minutes when Jarrod Bowen picked out Tomas Souček in the centre of the area and he showed quick feet to make space before curling into the bottom corner.
That looked to be enough to see the Hammers end Everton's eight-game undefeated streak in the Premier League, only for O'Brien to pop up in injury-time and rescue a point thanks to a close range header.
Forest blitz Ipswich in first half
Scorers: Cajuste 81', Hirst 90+3'; Milenković 35', Elanga 37', 41', Silva 87'
A blistering three-goal salvo in the space of six first half minutes helped Nottingham Forest to a 4-2 win
The first came via Nikola Milenković with a goal any of his forwards would be proud of, controlling deftly before driving a volley in off the underside of the bar and moments later, Anthony Elanga made it 2-0 when he was allowed to run too far unchallenged and picked his spot to score.
The Swede claimed his second before half-time when he was again afforded too much room to manoeuvre and took advantage by splitting Ipswich's centre-backs and coolly beating the goalkeeper.
Ipswich did muster a late consolation with an excellent Jens Cajuste finish but within minutes, the visitors restored their three-goal advantage to kill any lingering hopes thanks to a Jota Silva strike.
George Hirst did pull another back deep into injury-time for an Ipswich side who are now nine points from safety, while Forest strengthen their grip on third and close the gap on Arsenal in second to a point.
Saints set unwanted record
Scorers: Onuachu 75'; Strand Larsen 19', 47'
A Jørgen Strand Larsen double for Wolves at St Mary's saw Southampton sink to a 2-1 loss which has extended their losing league run at home to nine games - a new club low.
Wolves took the lead with 19 minutes on the clock when a cross from the right flank was met by an arching Strand Larsen header which crept underneath the goalkeeper.
The Norwegian grabbed his second of the game shortly after the restart via the aid of a slight deflection off Taylor Harwood-Bellis en route to goal.
With 15 minutes remaining, Southampton gave themselves hope with Paul Onuachu's third goal for the club but it wasn't enough, with his side now 17 points behind Wolves in 17th place - firmly rooted to the foot of the table.
