Zelensky praises ‘absolute heroism of Ukrainians’ three years after Russian invasion

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is praising the “absolute heroism” of his people on the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion.
“Three years of resistance. Three years of gratitude. Three years of absolute heroism of Ukrainians. I am proud of Ukraine!” Zelensky posted to X. “I thank everyone who defense and supports it.”
In his post, Zelensky honored the memory of those who have lost their lives in the war and shared a video showing the destruction of Ukrainian cities and Ukrainian military fighting back against Russian forces.
The three-year anniversary comes at a strained time for Kyiv.
President Trump, who's been back in the Oval Office for just more than a month, is committed to ending the war but has sidelined Ukraine. Trump has engaged in peace talks and shown his closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump and Putin recently held a call to discuss ending the war, and members of his administration met with Russian officials but not the Ukrainians.
The U.S. president has slammed Zelensky, arguing that the war wouldn’t have started had it not been for him, whom he called a dictator.
More than a dozen Western leaders were in Ukraine on Monday to mark the anniversary of the war. They pledged more military aid as the U.S. looks to scale back its commitment to the allied country, The Associated Press reported.
The Western leaders have been surprised with Trump’s actions around ending the war and watched with caution.
Zelensky also said Sunday that the Trump administration’s proposal to five the U.S. $500 billion worth of profits from Ukraine’s rare earth minerals as compensation for the U.S. aid during the war is no longer on the table, but a more equitable deal was now in the works, the AP reported.
