Why you won't receive a Supplemental Security Income check in March

(NEXSTAR) — Those who regularly receive Supplemental Security Income from the Social Security Administration have seen some irregularly-timed payments recently. In March, they won't see a payment at all.
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is dispersed monthly, typically on the first day of each month.
A quick look at the calendar will show that March 1 falls on a Saturday which, as SSI beneficiaries may know, means they will not receive their payment that day. They won't receive it on Monday, March 3 either.
Instead, per the Social Security Administration's process, March's SSI payment is dispersed on Friday, February 28.
When the first day of a month falls on a weekend or a holiday, payments are sent out on the final weekday of the previous month. So if the first day of the month falls on a Sunday, payments would arrive on the previous Friday.
For the last few months, SSI beneficiaries have seen their payments arriving out-of-order due to holidays and weekends.
In late November, they received December's payment a few days early. In late December, January's payment arrived early because of the New Year's Day holiday. A payment came in late January but it was technically February's. After March's payment is dispersed in late February, there will be no payment in March and the schedule will return to normal on April 1.
There will be another blip in May when both May's and June's payments are dispersed (June 1 falls on a Sunday).
Regardless of when an SSI payment arrives, beneficiaries will still receive all of their intended checks throughout 2025. Receiving two SSI payments in one month and none in another may, however, lead to some slight budget adjustments.
In 2025, the maximum monthly SSI payment is $967 for an individual and $1,450 for a couple, though amounts can vary based on a person's income, living situation, and whether they receive additional support from their state.
If you receive SSI and Social Security payments, the latter will arrive as usual on March 3. All other Social Security recipients will be unaffected by March starting on a Saturday, according to the administration's payment calendar.
