White House won't rule out Trump attendance at correspondents' dinner

The White House is not ruling out the possibility of President Trump attending this spring's White House Correspondents' Association dinner.

"I have the president's invitation on my desk. I have the invitation for myself on my desk as well. Haven't talked to the president about it," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters when asked about this year's dinner.

"When he makes his decision, I will let you all know," she continued. "But definitely an interesting choice of a comedian. I'll talk to the boss and see what we decide."

The White House Correspondents’ Association announced earlier this week comedian Amber Ruffin would serve as the entertainer for the April dinner.

A writer for NBC's "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and CNN's comedic news show “Have I Got News for You," Ruffin has poked fun at the president in the past.

Trump did not attend the association's dinners during his first term in office, bucking a tradition that went back several administrations. Former President Biden attended the event all four years he was in office.
