Watch live: White House holds briefing with DC plane crash investigation underway
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt is holding a press briefing Friday afternoon, just days after a fatal plane crash that killed more than 60 people outside Washington, D.C., provided an early test for the Trump administration.
The briefing comes a day after President Trump suggested the Wednesday evening collision between an American Airlines passenger flight and an Army Black Hawk helicopter could be related to hiring practices at the Federal Aviation Administration. His criticism of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs — including executive action to dissolve DEI efforts at the federal level — has come under scrutiny.
Earlier Friday, Trump was scheduled to hold a school choice roundtable at the White House and is expected to issue more executive orders later in the day.
The White House news briefing also follows the president's threat to begin levying tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting Saturday.
The event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. EST.
