National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chair Jennifer Homendy will brief reporters Friday afternoon on the agency's probe of a helicopter that crashed into the Hudson River near New Jersey on Thursday.
The Bell 206 helicopter belonging to a tour company crashed in the water between Jersey City and Hoboken, N.J., around 3:15 p.m., according to officials. All six people on board — which included the pilot, a Siemens executive and his family — were killed in the accident.
The accident follows a series of high-profile incidents in recent months, including the midair collision of an Army helicopter and passenger plane near Washington, D.C., earlier this year. That crash, the deadliest aviation accident in America since November 2001, left 67 people dead.
The NTSB and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the latest crash. They have encouraged any witnesses with video footage or more information to reach out.
The press conference is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. EDT.
