Watch live: Jeffries gives remarks as GOP's budget plan remains on shaky ground

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) will hold his weekly press conference on Thursday morning, as the House GOP's plans to avert a government shutdown next month seem to be planted on rocky soil.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Republicans notched a significant win Tuesday night by passing the budget resolution in a stunning late-night vote. But they will now face a series of high-stakes next steps that could make or break their effort to push President Trump's legislative agenda through to the finish line.
Jeffries and House Democrats have vowed to use the March 14 funding lapse date as a weapon against the Trump administration's actions that have gutted federal programs, could lead to thousands of layoffs across the federal government and sought to dismantle key agencies or departments.
The press conference comes as Senate Republicans, who heralded their own spending plan, are also looking to overhaul the lower chamber's budget resolution before throwing their support behind any agreement.
Jeffries' remarks are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. EST.
