Watch live: House panel convenes hearing on 'new era' for CFPB

The House Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions will hold a hearing Wednesday morning to review the structure and funding of the embattled Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

The hearing comes after President Trump and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) moved rapidly to largely gut the board by halting the agency’s work, cutting off funding and shutting down its headquarters. The effort was later blocked by a federal judge and some offices within the consumer watchdog resumed their functions.

Several employees, however, testified earlier this month that the agency's plans to fire hundreds of workers remain intact.

Trump's pick to lead the agency, Jonathan McKernan, has yet to be confirmed by the Senate.

The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EDT.
