Vivek Ramaswamy: 'I didn't see evidence' of pet eating in Springfield
Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy says he went to Springfield, Ohio, and did not see any evidence that migrants were eating pets, as former President Trump and some of his allies have claimed.
During a Tuesday morning appearance on CNN, Ramaswamy was asked directly about claims that Haitian migrants in the city are eating household pets, allegations that have been debunked by local authorities.
"Having gone to Springfield, I didn't see that evidence," Ramaswamy said, before noting that "there are residents in the city who are pointing to that."
"So when we're getting into fact-checking, I think we should apply the same standard to 360 degrees," the Republican said in reference to comments made by Vice President Harris and other Democrats on abortion, claims he says are similarly misleading.
"Let's not use the fringe words that somebody and either side might say," he continued. "And let‘s focus on the actual content of the debate, even when we disagree most. I think that‘s going to be a key step to reviving our country."
Ramaswamy is a relative newcomer to politics and was seen as a potential vice presidential pick for Trump after bowing out of the 2024 GOP primary. He remains a vocal supporter of the former president and his agenda.
