Verizon says service has 'returned to normal levels' after thousands experienced outages
Verizon said Monday its "engineers have fully restored today's network disruption" following thousands of its users reporting outages.
"Verizon engineers have fully restored today's network disruption that impacted some customers. Service has returned to normal levels," Verizon spokesperson Ilya Hemlin said in a statement. "If you are still having issues, we recommend restarting your device. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience."
Earlier Monday, thousands of people who use Verizon were going through service outages. By midday, more than 100,000 users had reported outages, per Downdetector, with a map from the outage tracker showing hot spots around locations including Tampa, Fla.; Atlanta; and New York City.
On Monday evening, the number of reports of outages for Verizon was down to more than 2,900.
Some phones showed “SOS,” a sign that they had lost cellular service, according to multiple users on social media.
Verizon wasn’t the only provider with spikes on Downdetector on Monday. More than 1,000 AT&T users reported outages, but the company said this was because of an issue at “another carrier.”
“Another carrier is experiencing a network issue that may be preventing our customers from calling their customers,” AT&T spokesperson Jim Kimberly said in a previous statement.
