UFC legend Conor McGregor running for president of Ireland

UFC fighter Conor McGregor solidified his bid for Ireland’s presidency on Thursday with a promise to preserve his native country by tackling migration, days after meeting with President Trump at the White House.
McGregor has decided to campaign as a leader in opposition to the European Migration Pact, which would create a streamlined approach to border security and immigration and speed up the asylum process for European Union members.
“The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to Government and oppose this bill,” he wrote in a Thursday post on social platform X.
“Any other Presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will!”
McGregor has suggested citizens vote on implementing the pact instead of the legislation only receiving approval from the Houses of the Oireachtas and president.
“For clarity also, as President, I would put forth this bill to referendum. Although I oppose greatly this pact, it is neither mine nor governments choice to make. It is the people of Irelands choice! Always,” McGregor said in the post.
“That is a true democracy! I would also be curious to hear our government officials reasoning for agreeing with this pact so fervently. I would love to hear the debates! Followed then by vote!”
The Irish fighter has never held a political post but has seemingly earned support from Trump, who welcomed him into the Oval Office for several photo-ops Monday.
The UFC record champion canceled his return to the fight circuit for a chance to enter the arena of global government.
“Ireland, the choice is yours and it is an easy one. Vote for me as your President and we will SAVE IRELAND TOGETHER,” McGregor wrote in a separate Thursday post on X.
He hinted at the idea of a presidential bid in September on social media with a proposal to rid the nation of it’s lower chamber, the Dáil Éireann, which has the power to pass any law, and to nominate or remove the head of government.
“As President I hold the power to summon the Dáil as well as dissolve it,” McGregor wrote in a post on X.
“This would be my power as President. I know very well. Ireland needs an active President employed wholly by the people of Ireland. It is me. I am the only logical choice. 2025 is upcoming,” he continued.
