Trump wins Nevada, notching another swing state
Former President Trump is projected to win the swing state of Nevada, according to Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ).
DDHQ called the presidency for Trump earlier Wednesday morning after he won Alaska and Pennsylvania.
Nevada was one of seven pivotal swing states key in determining the path to the presidency. Trump’s win in Nevada is notable because he lost the state twice at the presidential level, both by just more than 2 points in 2016 and 2020.
Nevada has a unique electorate given that it’s a transient population in the service sector-heavy state, requiring candidates to reintroduce themselves to voters every election cycle. Hispanic and Latino voters make up a critical voting bloc within the state. The state also has a notable Mormon voting bloc.
This election cycle, Nevadans were also asked to weigh in on an abortion ballot measure that would enshrine abortion protections into the state constitution.
Abortion ballot measures have generally been seen as a key voting turnout mechanism for Democrats, making Trump’s win in the state particularly notable.
Also on the ballot this cycle is a key Senate race between Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) and Republican Sam Brown, with public polling ahead of the election showing signs of Rosen leading Brown.
