Trump: US has 'just about' ended Ukraine intelligence-sharing suspension
President Trump said Sunday the United States had "just about" ended a suspension of intelligence sharing with Ukraine, adding that he expects "a lot of progress" during the talks with Ukrainian officials planned in Saudi Arabia this week.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump said he wanted Ukraine to "want to want peace."
"Right now, they haven't shown it to the extent they should," he said, but added that Ukraine's seriousness would become evident in the next two or three days.
On Wednesday, Trump administration officials said the White House paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine in its war against Russia as part of a broader review of assistance to Kyiv.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe and national security adviser Mike Waltz both confirmed the U.S. had paused intelligence sharing as well as military aid.
U.S. officials are slated to hold discussions with a Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, partly to assess if Ukraine is prepared to offer concessions to Russia to bring an end to the war. A minerals agreement between Washington and Kyiv is also being negotiated, and its outcome will likely influence the talks in Jeddah.
During his conversation with reporters Sunday, Trump said he thinks Ukraine will sign the minerals deal.
Asked if he was concerned about military exercises involving Russia, China and Iran, he said the U.S. is "stronger than all of them."
