Trump to ring opening bell at NYSE
President-elect Trump will ring the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in New York on Thursday, a source familiar with the plans confirmed.
Trump will travel to New York City on Wednesday night from his home in Palm Beach, Fla., to ring the bell the next morning.
The president-elect reportedly is expected to be named Time magazine’s "Person of the Year" and ringing the bell would be to celebrate the unveiling, Politico reported. He was floated for the honor this year, along with other high-profile figures like podcaster Joe Rogan.
Time CEO Jessica Sibley rang the opening bell last year when Time named megastar Taylor Swift the "Person of the Year."
Trump was also named "Person of the Year" in 2016 after he was elected for his first term as president.
The president-elect, who was a longtime New Yorker and real estate mogul before he moved to Florida, has never rang the bell before. The opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange marks the start of the day’s trading.
Former first lady Melania Trump rang the opening bell in September 2019 to promote her “Be Best” White House initiative at the time.
