Trump says GOP should campaign on Democratic response to his speech
President Trump on Wednesday urged Republicans to campaign on how Democratic lawmakers conducted themselves during his joint address to Congress a night earlier, when several lawmakers walked out in protest and refused to applaud.
"The Democrats should lose the Midterms based on their behavior at last night’s Joint Address to Congress," Trump posted on Truth Social. "All Republicans must use their behavior on men in women’s sports, their very dangerous Open Border policy, High Energy and Taxes, and much else."
Trump called on Republicans to use footage of how some Democrats in the chamber did not applaud when the president spoke about young women killed by migrants who entered the country illegally and highlighted other White House guests.
"This could be, on analyzing the full tape of this Historic Event, your full CAMPAIGN TO VICTORY!" Trump posted. "In other words, Republicans can take what happened last night, and win any Race in the Country."
While it's unlikely Trump's speech will factor heavily into the midterms, which are still roughly 20 months away, his post reflected how the White House has tried to capitalize on the response to his address.
Democrats faced criticism, including from some in their own party, for their handling of Trump's joint address to Congress on Tuesday.
Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) was escorted out of the chamber after he repeatedly heckled Trump. Several Democrats silently walked out during Trump's speech. At other points, numerous Democrats held up round, black signs that read “False,” “Musk Steals,” “Save Medicaid” and “protect veterans.”
